Circle of Henry Singleton (1766-1839) - Portrait of Edward Jeffries
An interesting early 19th century portrait of a gentleman drawn in pencil. The Abbott & Holder label on the reverse of the frame suggests that the artist is Edward Jeffries and the subject matter is 'Singleton'. However, there does not appear to be an artist with this name operating around 1814, but there is the portrait painter Henry Singleton (1766-1839). It is far more likely to be this artist as his works appear to be similar which is why we have placed it within his circle. Furthermore, a famous preparatory pencil sketch of Benjamin Franklin is purely signed 'Singleton'. A work that could certainly benefit from further research as this drawing most likely relates to a portrait by Henry Singleton.
