Early 19th Century English School - Shipping anchored on the coast
A detailed and well drawn composition of a fishing ship anchored on the coast. The work follows in the style of the 17th/18th century Dutch marine school and also of esteemed British marine artists such as Nicholas Pocock, Robert Cleveley and Samuel Atkins. It can most likely be dated to the early 19th century but unfortunately does not have any signature or inscription linking it to any artist. Further research could help to yield additional information about the work.
Medium: watercolour on paper, 16.2 x 22.7cm, mounted.
Provenance: Collection of Bill Thompson (Albany Gallery).
Condition report: the watercolour is in good condition. The mount has a couple of bumps in the top left and right hand corners.
