John Wilson Carmichael (1799-1868) - The Mouth of the Humber
The tidal estuary of the Humber was an important source of inspiration for the maritime artist John Wilson Carmichael with many of his large oil paintings depicting this part of eastern England's coastline. In this drawing the lighthouse in the distance is possibly Spurn Point with various shipping heading to and from Hull.
Medium: Pencil, sepia wash and bodycolour.
