Joseph Murray Ince (1806-1859) - River Landscape
  • Joseph Murray Ince (1806-1859) - River Landscape

Joseph Murray Ince's tutor was David Cox and this example of a river landscpe from 1841 is typical of his influence. Although famous for his drawings of the colleges of Oxford and Cambridge, Ince also was an accomplished landscape artist and made various tours to Wales which this drawing may have been completed on.

Medium: Watercolour and pencil on paper

Signed and dated on a rock on the centre right of the composition 'JM Ince 1841', 18.5 x 32 cm, framed.

    Provenace: Sotheby's 25 January 1988, lot 39.

Note, there are foxing marks in the sky and a small tear to the upper right hand corner of the drawing. We prefer not to restore watercolours as there is a risk to altering the composition.
