Nicholas Pocock O.W.S. (1740-1821) - Sailing boats off the English South Coast
This watercolour by Nicholas Pocock is in excellent condition and shows sailing boats off the coast of England circa. 1800. We believe the location is along the southern coast of England with low lying land and what appears to be a Parish Church to the right of the drawing. A similar composition near to Southampton was sold at auction in 2016 depicting the coastline and Netley Abbey. This was a large oil-on-canvas which may have derived from this watercolour as the sailing boats are very similar, it is furthermore dated 1809 which may be a similar date for this work.
Medium: Pencil and watercolour on paper.
