Paul Sandby R.A. (1731-1809) - Lake Windermere, Ferry House
  • Paul Sandby R.A. (1731-1809) - Lake Windermere, Ferry House

This charming watercolour by Sandby was probably produced towards the end of his career from the 1790s onwards. It is a rare depiction of a Lake District scene by the artist with bodycolour used throughout the work. The tree to the right of the compostion helps to frame the picture and is typical of Sandby's cappricio landscapes. There is an exhibition or gallery label that helps to identify the location 'Windermere, Ferry House' and we believe the Ferry House is located on the other side of the Lake in the watercolour. A Ferry House still exists at Windermere where various boat trips around the lake depart and return from.
