Peter De Wint (1784-1849) - View of Village in Derbyshire possibly Bonsall
This interesting chalk study by De Wint was taken from a Derbyshire sketchbook. The Fry Gallery label suggests it depicts the village of Bonsall which is certainly a possibility as the church resembles the village's 13th century parish church of St James the Apostle. De Wint has expertly used white chalk to highlight areas of the drawing.
Medium: pencil with black and white chalk on blue paper, 17 x 25 cm, framed.
Provenance: Fry Gallery (label affixed verso, with later Suffolk address for when they moved premises from London), possibly stock number 1066.
Condition report: the drawing is in excellent condition. The frame has a few scuff marks as shown in the sample photographs.
