Samuel Owen (1768-1857) - Morning
  • Samuel Owen (1768-1857) - Morning

Samuel Owen was renowned for his small but highly detailed maritime watercolours. His most famous drawings were of the engagement between HMS Director and the Vryheid at the Battle of Camperdown on 11 October 1797. We sold one of these drawings a couple of years ago. This charming watercolour depicts a 'Morning' along the English coast with fishermen rowing towards their boats with women and other men on the seashore. Various vessels can be seen on the flat sea with an old broken up hulk to the right of the drawing.

Medium: watercolour and pencil on paper.

14 x 11 cm, according to label on the back 'Morning' is inscribed by Owen on the back of the watercolour, framed.
