William Page (1794-1872) - Schloss Ambras, Innsbruck, Austria
William Page was a landscape artist who attended Royal Academy schools between 1812-13. He was known to have travelled in Europe between 1826-31 and 1835-8 with our drawing most likely being from one of these periods. Ambras Castle (locally known as Schloss Ambras) is a Renaissance castle and palace located in the mountains surrounding the Austrian town of Innsbruck in the Tyrol.
Medium: watercolour, inscribed verso 'William Page' and 'Schloss Ambras', 18.3 x 26.4 cm (picture size), mounted.
Provenance: Bill Thomson's Collection (Albany Gallery owner).
Condition report: slight tear at the top of the picture in the centre (this is not very obvious with the mount). Fading and the odd foxing mark.
